Terms of Service – Skene

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Skene ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service

Skene is a social platform that helps people discover, organize, and participate in real-world activities and events.

The Service allows users to:

• create profiles
• discover activities
• connect with other users
• organize or join events
• find activity partners through matchmaking
• share activity invitations via links
• communicate through direct messages, activity chats, group chats, and place chats

Skene may modify or discontinue parts of the Service at any time.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.

By using Skene, you represent that:

• you are legally able to enter into this agreement
• the information you provide is accurate
• you will comply with these Terms and applicable laws

4. User Accounts

To access certain features, you must create an account.

You agree to:

• keep your login credentials secure
• provide accurate information
• update your information if it changes

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

Push Notifications

Skene may send push notifications to your device if you grant permission. You can disable push notifications at any time through your device settings or within the app.

5. User Content

You may submit content such as:

• profile information
• a short status shared on your profile and optionally broadcast to your followers
• chat messages (text, images, and shared locations)
• activity and event descriptions
• images
• places (climbing gyms, outdoor crags, and other locations)

You retain ownership of your content.

However, by posting content on Skene you grant Skene a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute your content within the Service. This license ends when you delete your content or your account, except where your content has been shared with other users who have not deleted it.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to share any content you upload.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• post objectionable content, including content that is hateful, defamatory, sexually explicit, violent, or discriminatory
• harass, threaten, bully, or abuse other users
• post illegal or harmful content
• impersonate another person
• attempt to hack, disrupt, or interfere with the Service
• use the Service for unlawful activities

Skene has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Agreeing to this policy is a condition of using the Service.

You can report objectionable content or abusive users from anywhere it appears in the app, and you can block any user to stop all contact from them. We review reports and act on violations — including removing content and suspending or terminating accounts — typically within 24 hours.

7. Safety and Real-World Activities

Skene facilitates connections between users but does not organize, supervise, or guarantee the safety of activities arranged by users.

You participate in real-world activities at your own risk.

Skene is not responsible for:

• user behavior
• accidents or injuries
• disputes between users

Users are responsible for their own safety and judgment.

8. Account Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts if:

• these Terms are violated
• illegal activity is suspected
• the Service is abused

Accounts that are reported are reviewed by our moderation team and may be suspended or terminated for violations. Suspended users may contact us to appeal.

Users may delete their accounts at any time.

9. Intellectual Property

All software, branding, design, and content provided by Skene (excluding user content) is the property of Skene or its licensors.

You may not:

• copy the Service
• reverse engineer the software
• reproduce branding or assets without permission

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind.

Skene does not guarantee:

• uninterrupted service
• error-free operation
• that users will behave responsibly
• accuracy, completeness, or availability of weather forecasts shown in the app (forecast data is provided by MET Norway and may not reflect actual conditions; do not rely on it for safety-critical decisions)

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Skene shall not be liable for:

• indirect damages
• loss of data
• loss of profits
• personal injury arising from user interactions

12. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time.

When significant changes are made, we will notify users through the app or by email and update the "Last updated" date.

If you continue to use the Service after being notified of changes, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you may delete your account.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland.

14. Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from these Terms or the use of the Service shall first be resolved amicably between the parties.

If an amicable resolution cannot be reached, the dispute shall be settled by the District Court of Helsinki (Helsingin käräjäoikeus).
